What does Koa say? - Eboniz by FrostedCow

Personality

On first impression, Koa is more than likely to blow you off. He really just doesn't give a shit about you, your problems, and especially not your excuses. He's a dog of few words, and unless you have something important to talk about, don't bother trying to be chatty with him. Despite this, Koa is still very much a leader and naturally emits a powerful aura. He is strong both emotionally and physically, and it takes quite a bit to knock this dog down. In fact, it's not very likely you can say or do much of anything to get to him. He really just doesn't give a shit .

Something very clearly seen in his persona is his desire to be in control. Koa will always insist on having the upper hand, and if he feels he is in a position where he's not, he will do anything in his power to change that. He has no qualms about playing dirty or lying, though he is not manipulative at heart. In his eyes, the best way to do things is to be straight forward; hit 'em hard, hit 'em fast. He has no need for mind games, though he will play them if he sees it as his only option left. After all, he must always be in control. In addition to his controlling behavior, Koa is ruled by a deep seated calmness. Not much puts fear or panic in this canine, although, his temper isn't too hard to stir up if you press the wrong buttons. He does not and will not stand for disrespect, and will not hesitate to put an unruly dog in their place by any means necessary. If needed, he will make an example out of you.

Koa is also extremely ambitious, however, this is seen in his actions, not words. He wants to rule whatever he can get his paws on, but more importantly, wants to take what he feels others don't deserve. He's a hard worker and isn't afraid of getting his paws dirty to advance his own pack, even if that means forcefully taking it from someone else. Should an opportunity present itself, he would take it, no questions asked. Despite his hard exterior, Koa does care about his pack and their well being. Should someone threaten that, well, it wouldn't be a pretty sight.

Many would describe this brutish dog as grumpy, but he'd just tell you he's realistic. He could also be called mean and rude, but in fact, that's not really his intention, and blunt is a more accurate term for the Vryheid Alpha. In fact, somewhere not-so-deep within Koa's personality is a sense of humor and adventure. Albeit, that humor is crude, sarcastic, and oftentimes sexual, but it is there! However, his sense of adventure is something only dogs he truly trusts will get to see. He genuinely loves taking risks and doing something that really gets the adrenaline pumping, but he won't do this with just anyone. No, if this dog is willing to tolerate you enough to have some fun, then you know he really likes you.

Pre-group history

Koa was born at a naval base along the coastline from an arranged breeding. He doesn't remember much of his family life, and what he does remember, he doesn't dwell on. Trained from birth, he was part of a military combat program that studied the efficiency of using dogs in the military and the effect they had on the people around them. It was during his youth that the purebred Akita found his love for hard work, respect, and strength. He spent the first two years of his life on the base, growing stronger with each passing day as he was trained to take down suspects, sniff out land mines, and clear buildings. Eventually, he was assigned a handler who oversaw the continuation of his training for several more months. Together, they were deployed to do the real and true work of the military.

Koa didn't mind this life. Working until the age of four, he grew rather fond of his handler and enjoyed the challenge and demand of his job. While not necessarily caring or truly understanding the motives of his  , the Akita did his work well and was eager every time they went out. However, the job was not meant to last. His handler lost a leg in an explosion during one of their missions and was sent home to stay. In a form of compensation and a touch of humanity, the military decided to let the handler take Koa home with him, plus, they had become pretty attached to each other.

Koa soon became adjusted to the easy city life. Serving as a guard dog for his handler and their elderly parents, his strict, exhausting regimen turned into one of ease and freedom. Due to his extensive training, his owners trusted him enough to grant him his freedom and had installed a doggy door for him to come and go as he pleased. While he mostly lounged around indoors during the daytime, as soon as the sun was well below the horizon, Koa was out and about in hot pursuit of adventure. While starting at the bottom of the food-chain, his strength, attitude, and the crowd he rolled with gained him quick recognition and more importantly, respect. He was well known, and quickly rose to the top of the pyramid on the streets. Dogs respected him, and he liked that. The adventure he sought? Anything. He was fond of gambling, drinking, stealing, fighting, trespassing, and it was not entirely uncommon for the male to seek out a lady friend for the night. Despite his nights of fun, Koa would make sure he returned to his people before they woke, always sitting at the foot of the stairs by dawn.

However, one night he returned to a smoking building and sirens. His home had burned down, and his people had burned with it.
He fled the scene that night and never returned. Koa holds a deeply set hatred towards himself for what happened to his family and inevitably blames himself for their death. At this moment, his secret night life became his only life and it wasn't long until news about the two packs in the area trying to take over the city reached his cropped ears. This piqued his interest. He scoped out their hideouts without being discovered, and what he found disgusted him. He didn't like either pack; their rules were too strict and they didn't train their dogs right, either. There was no discipline, but at the same time, there was no freedom. Koa knew that other dogs would follow him, he'd seen it himself during his time on the streets. So, he decided to set up his own pack.

However, he wasn't sure where to begin. Until he met a young female by the name of Valor. He took the pretty Malinois under his wing and taught her everything that he knew. They became best friends, and they were each other's world. One night, Koa expressed his idea of forming a pack and asked her opinion. Valor's fiery spirit lit up, and they both decided that now was the time to begin. Valor became Koa's beta and they both scoped out the sewers, cleaning the muck out and making it livable. Then, they began to recruit dogs and claimed their own piece of the war.

Group History

The Vryheid pack gained members quickly. The dogs joining this pack were a different sort than those he had observed living with his rivals, and that was exactly what the Akita was looking for. They were those that were rougher in nature, and while not desiring the hard life of a stray, did not care for the rigid life of the other packs. Koa could offer what no one else could; safety, comfort, food, and most of all, freedom.

As numbers swelled, Koa decided to announce his pack's arrival by killing two weak strays and stringing them up at the front door of the Dagsworth and Dunkle packs. As time passed, nothing came from the other packs. No messages, retaliations, not even any sightings. Koa decided it was time to make their message more clear and staged an attack on the Dunkle pack. His target was the pregnant beta of the Dunkle pack, however, he only managed to kill Santiago, a guard. After the death of the guard, he called a retreat and considered the battle a small success and a large warning.

As time carried on, still the Vryheid saw no real retaliation. However, their numbers continued to swell. This was when Koa met Kira, a new Vryheid omega. Unlike the others, who feared or avoided Koa, Kira did the opposite. She actively challenged him, snooped around in his things, and even went as far as to flirt with the Alpha male. After a particularly intense encounter, the two slept together, something never discussed or mentioned again. Unfortunately, Kira was captured by the pound and not to be seen again.

For the first time, one of the other packs decided to reach out to the Vryheid. It was the Dagsworth, who sent two messengers to ask for a meeting between the Alphas and Betas in order to discuss a peace treaty. Koa, surprisingly, agreed. However, the day of the meeting, Koa ambushed the Vryheid leaders, hoping to kill them. He only managed to kill one Beta, but she was later revealed to have survived the encounter. He does not know this. After this battle, Koa expected retaliation, however, and entire winter went by with absolute silence. After sending a spy to scope out the Dagsworth territory, it was discovered that they had abandoned their territory.

Wanting to capitalize on the opportunity, Koa split the Vryheid down the middle and sent half the pack to live in the Dagsworth territory and claim it for their own.
